Last summer’s production of Oklahoma! was one of the hottest shows of our 2018-2019 season. Hot in ticket sales and hot in temperature. On opening night, it was pushing 100 degrees outside and the humidity was stifling, making it feel even hotter inside the packed auditorium. We did everything we could to make it more comfortable for the audiences, but our aging, more than 30-year-old HVAC system, was working at only 50% capacity and just simply couldn’t keep up.

While most in the crowd were still able to enjoy the show, the discomfort was especially bad for many of our senior patrons and some had to leave early. Now that warmer weather is upon us, we have discovered that our heating and air system has, unfortunately, completely broken down. Because of its age, it can not be repaired and must be replaced.

It is important that the new system provide a comfort and quiet that will not be a distraction during performances, as well as help protect assets like scenery, costumes, and props required to present the level of programming you have come to expect. Your experience at the Playhouse is our top priority. So, we’re asking for your help.

A new system will cost us $85,000. This includes the cost of demolition and making the necessary alterations to the facility to put in a more energy efficient and quieter system. We’re asking that you help us out with a donation to our BEAT THE HEAT! HVAC Fund so that we can replace our heating and air system as soon as possible.

Together, we can make this happen. Please make a tax-deductible donation today!
