Q. How do I get my child involved in Jr. Playhouse?
A. The best way is by auditioning for Jr. Playhouse productions and/or taking part in our Summer Academy.
Q. Is there a fee to be in productions?
A. No. There is not a cost to be in shows except occasionally to provide a costume item.
Junior Playhouse
The Oak Ridge Junior Playhouse is unique in that not only does it offer programming for young audiences, but it offers hands-on real life opportunities for young actors and technicians.
The Junior Playhouse annually produces three productions, typically adapted from, or based on, classic and popular children's literature. The Junior Playhouse also joins the Mainstage to jointly produce one large-scale production a year, typically a holiday or family musical.
Participation in Junior Playhouse is open to young thespians up through high school. Actors and actresses are selected through a typical audition process for each show. While auditions are open to all, there may be minimum age restrictions depending on what type of casting a particular show requires. Similarly, those who wish to work backstage should be at least twelve years old, depending on the crew position.
Junior Playhouse also offers theatrical training through our Summer Academy and occasional workshops.
SCHOOL PERFORMANCES
In addition to weekend performances for the general public, the JUNIOR PLAYHOUSE offers its productions to school groups during weekday school hours.
School performances must be booked ahead of time and groups must meet a minimum number of 12 students. Because of sometimes limited availability, it is strongly urged that you book your group early. Because school bookings require a deposit, all bookings are made via mail.

Graduating seniors who have been involved with Oak Ridge Playhouse and Jr. Playhouse may be eligible for our $1000 Jr. Playhouse Scholarship.

Have a budding young actor in your home? The our Junior Playhouse Summer Academy is just what you need to boost your young persons acting skills and love of the stage. Offered in one-week and two-week course levels, the Summer Academy begins in June.
